Metabolism of carbohydrates

·       Metabolism is a general term refers to all the biochemical reachons occurring  inside the organisms.

·       The Metabolism includes 2 Processes: Anabolism and Catabolism

Anabolism :

1.    is the process of the synthesis.

2.    It occurs (mostly) in the cytosol.

3.    It requires energy.

Catabolism :

1.    Is the process of the break-down.

2.    occurs (mostly) in the mitochondria.

3.    If releases the energy.

In this part of biochemistry we will study:

-         Metabolism of Carbohydrates.

-         Metabolism of Lipids and Lipoproteins.

-         Metabolism of proteins and amino acids.

-         Metabolism of nucleotides and neuclic acids.

The carbohydrates present in our diet are mainly

Mono Saccharides such as glucose and fructose

Disaccharides such as maltose; Lactose, and sucrose.

Poly saccharides such as starch and cellulose.
